Be aware of scam artist
Don't be fooled by the desperate pleas of a woman asking for help for her sick child.
BULWER Community Safety Forum has issued a warning to local residents not to fall victim to a scam artist operating in the Glenwood area.
Heather Rorick, chairperson of the Forum warned of an Indian woman who is approaching residents in the area claiming she has just moved into the area and points to either a block next door or across the road.
“She tells them that she has just come from the hospital and they did not have any asthma pumps to give her baby, and she asks if people have a spare one. When they say no, she asks for money for a prescription to get one. She also says she is only getting money the next day. She shows some hospital papers and also asks if people want to go with her to see the child, or whether she must bring him around,” she said.
Rorick warned that the woman was part of a scam and just wanted money. “She hopes residents will feel sorry for her and let her inside their home where she allegedly steals things. She sometimes works with a man. They have operated on the Bluff, Morningside and Berea and now seem to be working this area. Please watch out for her and warn others in the area,” said Heather.
