
Drugs recovered
ON 9 March, Umbilo SAPS officers arrested three men for possession of drugs.
W/O Ramparsadh and crew were conducting crime prevention duties when they stopped and searched a motor vehicle. Inside the car was a slope of dagga wrapped in newspaper valued at R25.
In another case W/O Sishi and crew conducted crime prevention duties on foot at Dalton hostel and inside the beer hall a man was searched and a slope of dagga was found inside his pants pocket.
Const TA Mtshali and crew stopped and searched a man and found heroin powder wrapped in a white rizzler, valued at R30 in his possession.
Const Mohamed and crew conducted a search at Dalton hostel and found three units of heroin powder, valued at R150 on another man.
The suspects were charged for possession and the cases are under investigation.
Women robbed
UMBILO SAPS members arrested a man on 4 March for robbery with a weapon.
A woman was walking along Clever Road when she was approached from behind by a man. He pushed her against the wall and demanded that she hand him her Nokia cellphone valued at R800. He also demanded money.
A security guard witnessed the occurrence and called the police who responded and arrested the man. The suspect was arrested and charged and the case is under investigation.
ON 6 March a man was arrested for common robbery.
A woman was walking along Che Guevara Road when the man stopped her and demanded that she hand over her cellphone, threatening to stab her with a knife.
The woman handed the cellphone over out of fear and the man ran away.
Umbilo officers were patrolling and passed by the scene of crime and the woman stopped them and explained what had just occurred.
The officers gave chase and caught and arrested the suspect. The case is under investigation.
On 6 March, Const Mkhungo and crew arrested a man in Brand Road.
A woman was walking when the suspect approached from behind, grabbed her Samsung Galaxy valued at R1000 and ran away. She screamed for help and witnesses gave chase and apprehended the suspect.
The property was handed to the owner. The suspect was arrested and charged and the case is under investigation.
Dad arrested for child neglect
ON 5 March, W/O Naidu arrested a man for child neglect.
The officer was on duty when he received a complaint that at Davenport Centre, a child aged about three years old was locked inside a black BMW and the rear window was slightly opened.
On arrival the child was sweating inside the locked car. According to the witnesses at the scene the child had been inside the car for more than an hour.
An unknown member of the public broke the window to save the child. The paramedics were called and the child was found to be dehydrated.
The father of the child arrived an hour later and he was arrested and charged. The child was handed to his mother who wasn’t living with the father.
The case is pending investigation.
