New wing for Durban Girls’

A new wing at DGHS is home to maths educators and the academic development programme.

DURBAN Girls’ High School entered a new chapter in the life of the school by celebrating the opening of the Victor Daitz Mathematics Wing recently.

This vision was initiated by the school’s previous principal Anne Martin, who believed that Durban Girls’ High School should be a centre of excellence, in particular in the maths and science fields.

Principal Erica Hayes-Hill and former principal Anne Martin cut the ribbon at the official opening, while Russell Sobey and Sam Abrahams unveiled the plaque.

The new building does not only accommodate the mathematics educators, but is also home to the academic development programme, where learners are mentored after school and have access to modern technology and programmes to extend them in all subjects, as well as giving them access to the Internet and a safe place to remain in the afternoons.

The opening ceremony not only celebrated, but also acknowledged the school’s supporters, in particular the major external funders – The Victor Daitz Foundation and The Durban Girls’ High School Educational Trust.
