Berea SAPS have made good arrests this past week.

Suspect breaks legs while escaping

A man was arrested after trying to flee from police at a Florida Road business premises on Saturday morning.

According to Lieutenant PN Naidoo, Communications Officer at Berea SAPS, the 31-year-old suspect broke into the Florida Road business in the early hours of Saturday, 15 March.

“The suspect is an ex-employee of the business. He disconnected the alarm but was disturbed as SAPS members and Enforce security officers attended the crime scene. The suspect hid himself on the third floor of the building as police searched the building to the ground floor,”

The suspect sustained broken legs and other injuries while trying to escape. He was arrested by Berea members and taken to a local hospital for medical attention under police guard and is expected to appear in court soon on charges of housebreaking and theft.

Stolen vehicle recovered

Sector managers at Berea SAPS got into gear last Sunday after hearing of a stolen Toyota Corrola from Avondale Road circulated on the radio control.

“Whilst patrolling along Sixth Avenue, they spotted a match to the circulated vehicle and confirmed that it was the stolen vehicle. It was returned to the owner. No suspects was arrested,” said Naidoo.

Security guard helps nab thief

A man was arrested for housebreaking and theft last Friday after a security guard saw him break into a garage on Bellevue Road.

“The quick thinking security guard alerted the police who responded quickly and arrested the suspect with the help of the guard,” said Naidoo.

Employee arrested for theft of cigarettes

A businessman noticed his employee acting very nervous and suspicious last Sunday morning so he called the Berea police to search him. When the police arrived the suspect was pointed out and was searched. Police found two cartons of cigarettes worth R600 in his zipped jacket.

“The 24-year-old suspect was charged for theft and detained at SAPS Berea.
