Take note of crime trends in Glenwood and be aware of criminals operating in the area.

LOCAL crime trends were discussed at a recent meeting of the Bulwer Community Safety Forum (BCSF),.

According to chairperson, Heather Rorick, there were a lot of issues affecting the community at present and it would take everyone working together to make a difference.

“Crime is on the rise in the area with the break ins at the restaurants in Helen Joseph Road. The criminals, part of a syndicate, are still out there, and have hit Morningside, Bluff and the Berea too. ATM scamming and remote jamming is also on the increase. Criminals are very advanced now,” she said.

She said theft out of motor vehicles was still high, with people leaving valuables in their cars.

“Criminals can now also get your boot open, so things are not even safe in there. Insurance companies are also starting to clamp down on claims,” she said.

Rorick said the community should also be aware of two men who were active in the area and had mugged people, stealing cellphones, bags and jewellery near Durban Girls’ High School in Lena Ahrens Road.

“One of the men is tall and thin, light in complexion and has gold in one of his teeth. The other wears a red Checkers packet on his head and wears a pink and white sock on one foot. There is also another man who rides a bike, who has short dreadlocks and flashes women and girls, and uses vulgar language,” said Rorick.

She urged residents to get involved in patrols with BCSF. The group is made up of men and women, young and old, who do their bit to patrol the streets by foot or in cars. The forum’s A Team was made up of a group of young men who give up their time and who care about their community. Anyone interested in getting involved or who could help with donations, should contact Heather on 074 203 2792.
