Fund supports computer library

West Ridge HIgh School were the lucky recipients of R240 000 worth of new computers for their vocational training classes from the MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet's Thuso Fund.

WEST RIDGE High School in Durban recently received 36 new computers for its vocational training class, sponsored by MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet’s Thuso Fund.

West Ridge caters specifically for learners who find it difficult to cope with mainstream education but who can do well in practical application. The syllabus has been adapted to suit the needs of the learners with special emphasis on reading skills, communication skills and functional maths, enabling them to become independent working members of the community. Computer literacy, and access to a functioning computer library, plays a huge role in this developmental process.

MySchool has provided the school with new computers to the value of R240 000. This means the school can continue offering Compu-Typing and Office Practice to its female learners and start offering computer training skills to the more than 500 male learners who attend the school and need computer literacy for future employability.

“At West Ridge our teaching methods involve differentiation according to the child’s ability, aptitude and interest. Access to computers enables us to teach them skills that will help them find jobs when they leave school. This donation will make a big difference in the lives of our learners.” said Dr Seetal, the Principal at West Ridge High.

“We are very pleased that we were able to assist the school with their new computer library. Our Thuso Fund supports four social development focus areas and the computer library at West Ridge is exactly why we started the fund in the first place – to fulfill education needs specifically within under-resourced and previously disadvantaged communities,” said Pieter Twine, MySchool General Manager.
