New committee for Interact
Eden College interactors make a difference in the lives of others.
THE Eden College Interact committee was announced at a special assembly last week.
The new president, Devaksha Dookhi, along with her members, vice president Pooja Ramlall, treasurer Marushka Hirachund, secretary Trisaina Govender and directors Shivek Iyer, Jana Janse van Rensburg and Sonal Brijlal, were congratulated by Rotary Club of Durban’s president, Derek Hucklesby, on their committment to make a difference in the lives of others.
Outgoing president, Denelle Vandayar, spoke of the projects the Interact Club of 2013 had undertaken to raise funds for Natal Settlers’ Memorial Homes, along with their weekly visits to the residents at the home, their Easter visit where Easter eggs were handed out, their Christmas show and the fact that the Interactors had helped out at the health day. The Interactors also raised funds at the school’s Green Fest and with the Eden’s Got Talents show.
“I thank my committee for their time and effort and I have no doubt that Devaksha, with her kind and caring soul, will take Interact to new heights this year,” said Denelle.
“I have big shoes to fill but it is my pleasure to positively impact someone’s life with no alterior motive, which is what Interact is about. I am passionate about giving back,” she said.
Devaksha aims for Interact to give back by helping the St Theresa’s boys with their homework, through a bread tag project, the Green Fest and Eden’s Got Talent, and through Acting for Rhinos, which will all raise funds for Project Rhino.
“It is my honour to induct the next Interact president. Since Paul Harris and his three friends founded Rotary 109 years ago, Interact has become on of the fastest growing elements of Rotary. We thank Denelle and her team for a job well done, and Devaksha, I hope you and your team have lots of fun helping in the community,” said Rotary president, Derek Hucklesby.
