Patient arrested for stealing medication

A staff member at St Aidan’s Hospital alerted police after she found a patient rummaging through a drug cupboard in a procedure room last Tuesday. “The man was the only one in the room and when she asked the patient to empty his pockets, he produced two vials he had hidden in them. The man was arrested for theft and taken to Berea SAPS,” said Lt PN Naidoo, Communications Officer for Berea SAPS.

Thief arrested for stealing gate remote

A man was arrested for theft after Berea police members caught him with the remote for a Musgrave Road home outside the premises in the early hours of Friday morning.

According to Lt PN Naidoo, the woman saw the suspect entering the gate of her premises and phoned the polic. After a few minutes, the man went out. “Police came looking for the suspect and found him on the street. While searching him, they found a gate remote control from the house in his possession.” He was arrested for theft and detained at SAPS Berea.

Stolen computer equipment recovered

Berea police members were on duty patrolling the area in Windermere when they observed two suspicious men sharing computer equipment amongst themselves on Friday night, 18 April.

According to Lt Naidoo, the members approached the men and on asking them were they got the Lenovo CPU, Vodacom and MTN modem, and USB flash, they said they found it on the road. “The duo were arrested and detained at SAPS Berea for being in possession of suspected stolen property.

Forceful bag snatcher arrested

A woman was lucky to walk away with her bag and no injuries after a bag snatcher attacked her in Currie Road on Family Day morning, Monday, 21 April. According to Lt PN Naidoo, the woman was walking along Currie Road when an unknown man quietly joined her and walked beside her. “As they passed the street security guard, the man grabbed the woman by her skirt and pulled her to the ground, tearing her skirt. He then grabbed her handbag from her shoulder and began to drag her on the floor. She screamed for help and the security phoned the police who quickly responded and came to assist in chasing the suspect who tried to flee,” said Naidoo.

The man was arrested and detained at Berea SAPS for common robbery.

Lt Naidoo wishes to remind the public to always be alert whilst walking on the street, shopping or at ATMs.

“Always watch your valuables whilst shopping and don’t ever leave them unattended in trolleys. Do not carry large amounts of cash rather pay with a card.

“Be careful of suspicious people or vehicles in your area, learn to know your neighbours and the vehicles they drive,” he added.
