Port Natal through to next round of competition
The Port Natal High School project is through to next round of Helping Hand Project of the Year competition.

A PROJECT at the Port Natal High School in Durban is one of three KwaZulu-Natal projects that have been approved to go through to the next round of the Solidarity Helping Hand Project of the Year competition.
This year Helping Hand launched the competition by way of effective and sustainable projects to plough back R1,5 million into needy communities. A total of 27 projects received were approved to go through to the next phase of the competition.
Project Centre met the criteria and proved that it could alleviate, prevent or break poverty, is feasible and falls within the prescribed budget and time framework, said Anel du Preez, the project organiser.
“KwaZulu-Natal produced wonderful and innovative ideas to uplift the community. I am very excited about the projects that will be launched in the province,” she said.
The Port Natal High School in Durban does not have a library or computer facilities where children can do their assignments.
Project Centre aims to make these facilities available to the school with the support of various role-players.
“Communities can vote for Project Centre by sending an SMS unique to the specific project. The community's SMS votes determine how much capital Helping Hand will make available to the project for the three-month long implementation phase that starts in May,” said Du Preez.
