Explosive robbery at Durban golf course
Sydenham police are investigating the robbery at the Durban Golf Club where two safes were blown up on Wednesday.
ARMED robbers allegedly wearing balaclavas held up security guards at the Papwa Sewgolum Golf Course in Reservoir Hills in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
The three robbers allegedly carrying a rifle and handguns held up guards, tied them up and used an explosive to blow up two safes in the caddies office, manager’s office and bar.
A police source confirmed the robbers apparently jammed the doors to the safes and burnt much of the money inside but made off with some unburnt cash and more cash from a third safe.
Police were only alerted to the robbery after the shift change of the security guards at 6am.
An undisclosed amount of money was taken.
Captain Thulani Zwane, spokesman for the provincial police confirmed that Sydenham police were investigating the case of robbery. “No arrests have been made at this stage,” he added.
