Crime awareness tips could help reduce your chances of becoming a victim say Berea police.

Two arrested

QUICK thinking Berea police were able to arrest two men for possession of car breaking implements in the early hours on Wednesday, 28 May.

According to Lieutenant PN Naidoo, Communications Officer at Berea SAPS, officers were patrolling along Currie Road near Povall Road when they noticed two suspicious men looking into parked motor vehicles. “They immediately stopped the men and searched them. A flexible silver road with a light attached to it was found on them and they were arrested and detained at SAPS Berea,” explained Naidoo.

Crime awareness tips

Lieutenant PN Naidoo, appeals to the public to always take safety precautions, and offered a few awareness tips that could help reduce your chances of becoming a victim.

Always be on the look out for suspicious people in your area and report them.

Know your neighbours and watch out for one another.

Do not park motor vehicles in dark areas.

Try to park in your complex if possible, vehicles parked on the road unattended are a target for thieves.

Do not leave valuables in vehicles, it is not regarded as a safe place.

Never leave items visible.

Try to light up your property with bright lights as this is a deterrent.

Try to put up cameras around your property as it could help scare off criminals.
