Stamford Hill BC takes on new life
New members are needed to join Stamford Hill Bowling Club.
STAMFORD Hill Bowling Club has a new management team that hopes to revive the club and take it to a whole new level.
According to Nolan Widd, he and the management team are putting their efforts into an intense membership drive.
“We took over management at the end of May. Because of financial issues, the previous management hadn't paid amenities, so we are hoping to come to an agreement with the municipality to pay these bills off. So far they are not budging, so we are in a catch 22 situation where we are trying to make this work,” he said.
He said management had given the club a facelift with a spot of paint and a new sports club, but that the club still needed a lot of help.
“No one had been supporting the club, but now it is quite festive. We have braai facilities, a big screen for sport and a recent breakfast for the Sharks game worked out so well, we had around 60 people come through. We rely on word of mouth and we are desperate for members,” said Nolan.
Nolan said it was a beautiful facility but that there was a need for social and bowling members to revive it to its former glory.
“We are on a positive road to get things going here and we want people to enjoy the facilities. This is a safe environment, it is fenced in so the cars are safe and children can play sport on the far field. This is a green belt in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Umgeni Road. We need members to help us further improve the club,” he said.
