MKP rakes popular vote in Ward 29

The IEC says delays in releasing voting results in eThekwini are due to the high volume of ballots as well as recounting processes.

As the counting, capturing, and adding of votes continue, the Electoral Commision (IEC) is racing against time to finish the process in time for tonight’s deadline.

Previously held by the ANC, Ward 29 had MKP emerging victorious. The ward spans over Berea West, Umkhumbane, Cato Manor, Wiggins, and surrounding informal settlements.

MKP secured 4894 votes ahead of ANC’s 1775, and 330 and 331 for the IFP and the DA, respectively.

The Commission reported that eThekwini is among four municipalities in the province that have not completed the counting and capturing.

“This is due to high volume of ballots, as well as recounting processes,” said IEC Provincial Officer Ntombifuthi Msimanga.
She added that these processes are ongoing, with the figure staggering at 64% (by Friday 13:10).

Political parties and the general public who seek to lodge complaints have until 17:00 today to submit their objections directly to the IEC.

THE Commisssion will announce final results live on Sunday, November 8 at 18:00.
