GLENWOOD Preparatory School recently had the pleasure of a visit from Mrs Anne Southwood and Kezia Southwood, wife and granddaughter of Peter Southwood.
Peter, who attended Glenwood Prep as a youngster, became South Africa’s only official ‘town crier’. This practice stems from as far back as ancient Greece where important notices were delivered verbally by a messenger who could read.
Peter competed in a number of World Town Crier Championships and performed regularly at the Royal Show and other celebrated events.
His ‘town crier’ uniform was donated by Mrs Southwood to the school and now stands proudly in the school’s foyer.
