New home for Windermere library
The Windermere Library has moved to new premises in Ninth Avenue, and has doubled in size.
WINDERMERE Library has settled into its new home, in the office block on Ninth Avenue.
According to centre manager, Jocelyn Hallot, the library, which has been based inside Windermere Centre for years, was relocated as when Windermere Centre was being upgraded and Absa bank required more space. The city was approached and asked if it would consider moving the library to new premises..
“SANCA has been moved upstairs in the office block, and the library has taken over the space on the ground floor. A wheelchair ramp and chair lift are being built at the moment for the elderly and disabled, and we have a dedicated disabled parking outside the one entrance in the underground parking lot. The library can be entered from the undercover parking lot or from Ninth Avenue,” she said.
The library is now much more spacious, having doubled in size, and has more books, with new ones still coming in. There is a bigger junior section, free wifi hotspots and free internet access for patrons for half an hour. It has its own toilets, is fully air-conditioned, has tables where people can study, plug points for laptops, a lot of lighting and a better layout.
Visit the library on a Monday between 10am and 6pm, Tuesday to Friday from 10am to 5pm and Saturday from 8.30am to 12.30pm.
