Parks swings into action

Residents enjoyed a swing warming outing on Sunday at Deodar Park.

THE Parks Department has responded to pleas from a Glenwood resident and installed new play equipment in Deodar Park.

In honour of the new equipment, resident Natalie Bowden hosted a 'swing warming' event on Sunday, where children enjoyed playing on the new swings and see-saw in the park.

“The council have been very good. They have not only installed this new equipment, but they have cleaned up the park and cut back some of the trees. I want to say thank you to the municipality. They have been very attentive and kept their word. My daughter was so disappointed that the swings were broken when we first started coming here, now she would swing all day if she could!” said Natalie.

She said she still hoped to have the park officially named. “It would be nice to have a community notice board erected at the park which could notify residents of events as well,” she said.

She encouraged residents to use the park and to keep it clean. “The more people using the park, the safer it will be,” she said.

Natalie, who lives in the area near Deodar Park and visits the park every day, decided to take it upon herself to do something to revamp the park. She spoke to a few members of the community about it and started a Facebook page on 5 May, to encourage people to take ownership of the park.

Natalie has worked with the Parks Department and ward councillor, Nicole Graham, to spruce up the park.
