DSW steps in to curb illegal dumping
Residents are urged not to take their garbage out unless it is collection day, as this is regarded as illegal dumping.
WARD 33 councillor, Nicole Graham, has been working on an education programme with DSW to educate people about littering and illegal dumping.
The first step in educating people about this problem was the erection of a No Dumping sign at the intersection of Che Guevara and Canterbury Roads.
“People have, for some reason, been dumping at this site for a while. It gets cleaned up by DSW, however this hasn't stopped people from dumping. DSW has now erected a sign at the site to help curb the problem,” she said.
Graham said DSW also printed leaflets which will be placed in people's postboxes regarding rubbish collection days, but that the collection days printed on the leaflets were incorrect.
“Residents must note their rubbish collection days have not changed. People are urged not to put their rubbish out if it is not a collection day as this is regarded as illegal dumping. If you notice your neighbours are doing this, you are urged to report this to DSW,” said Graham.
She said DSW would be doing door to door visits as well as putting info tables at Davenport Centre. The workers will have municipal cards, so be sure to check they are legit before letting them onto your property.
