Overport clinic on track

The new Overport Clinic building will be complete by the end of February next year.

WORK on the new Overport Clinic building in Peter Mokaba Road is going well according to ward councillor Jethro Lefevre.

According to councillor Lefevre, the clinic was closed after floods in December 2011 caused huge damage to the clinic infrastructure, and one of the walls caved in.

At the time, the acting Head of Health, Dr Ayo Olowolagba, said the heavy rain flooded the Overport Clinic resulting in a power failure, drain blockages and water leakage from the ceiling had forced the closure of the clinic.

“The new building is going up fast, which is encouraging,” said Lefevre.

Caiphus Bhengu, community liaison officer for ward 31, said building started in June and was going well.

“There have been delays due to the rain and builders lost a month as a result of the steel strike, but the building should be completed by the end of February next year,” he said.
