Keep up the good work, residents tell Metro Police

Metro Police relocates vagrants from local parks on a daily basis, says Captain Dingaan.

METRO Police have earned a pat on the back and an appeal to keep up the good work in removing vagrants from Bulwer Park from nearby residents.

According to resident Nino Spiteri, there is a continual stream of vagrants in Bulwer Park.

“Vagrants come into the park and bring loads of bags, they wash their clothes and go to the toilet in the park. They leave their rubbish and faeces lying around and we have found stripped computers and other mess after they leave. I walk my dogs in the park and have approached these men who have been very aggressive. They also harrass parents fetching their children at the school across the road,” he said.

Spiteri said the men told him they visited the park as it had free water available.

“The water fountains are disgusting. I think this is the issue – there shouldn't be water available for them as they use this to wash. I have also chased men smoking whoonga in the park as well as men who ring prostitutes here and leave used condoms lying around. We have found stolen goods and clothes stashed in trees. The municipality has done so much to give us a nice park, we want to keep it that way, we don't want this to be another whoonga park,” he said.

He said residents were grateful to Metro Police for doing something positive to help clean up the park, as well as other parks in the area.

At a recent community meeting, Capt Motsamai Dingaan from Metro Police said he and his team were working hard to keep vagrants out of local parks.

“We are going around to the parks in the area and have been removing around 35 people a day. These men are documented and moved back to their respective areas. This is done on a daily basis and in continuity. I also submit stats to senior members,” he said.

Capt Dingaan said the men shouldn't be in the area and urged residents to contact Metro to let them know where vagrants are sighted.
