Mural brightens up lives

Art students volunteered their time to bring joy to pupils at Open Air School.

ARTISTS from Thekwini College Centec Campus's Department of Art and Design, have painted a mural in the physiotherapy department at Open Air School.

A lecturer from the department, Nirmala Pillay, met up with Seema Kalyan from the school recently, and Seema told her about Open Air School.

“I wanted my students to understand that they are artists with purpose. This mural has brightened up the room and has given the pupils joy. My students gave up their holidays to do this. They said it was worth every moment. It is more important what you can do as an artist to make a difference, and bring joy, and I encourage my students to take their talent out into the community and bring joy to other places,” she said.

She said the students volunteered their time, but the project wouldn't have been a reality without the donation of paint and brushes by businessman, Strini Moodley.

Seema said the mural was fabulous and had brightened up the department so much. “The children have really enjoyed the change,” she said.
