City’s tree trimming operation welcomed
The parks department were quick to respond to requests to trim trees in Stephen Dlamini Road.
THE trimming of the old Natal Mahogany trees along Stephen Dlamini Road has been welcomed by Save Our Berea co-founder, Cheryl Johnson, who said thanks had to go to ward 33 councillor, Nicole Graham, who was instrumental in getting the trees trimmed.
“Nicole must have a magic touch because Graham Steele, who is in charge of the tree trimming team, responded immediately by email confirming our request was on his to-do list. In the past we have waited years to get these huge trees trimmed. We were pleasantly surprised when, within a few weeks, his crew was busy at work trimming our trees and doing a very good job indeed,” said Johnson.
She said she had become concerned when, on Monday 3 November, a large branch from one of the trees crashed down narrowly missing pedestrians and parked cars outside Tree Tops Nursery School, and subsequently blocked Cawood Lane.
She had contacted councillor Graham to raise her concerns.
“We needed to have the trees trimmed, but as these trees are highly prized by residents, we did not want them cut down, just the overhanging branches trimmed back. She said Save Our Berea wanted to extend its thanks to Graham Steele and his team, as well as all councillors involved, for expediting the matter.”
