Visitors enjoy end of holiday season in Durban
More than 300 000 people have visited Durban beaches this past week as the holiday season winds down.
FESTIVITIES in Durban have not come to an end just yet with many locals and visitors still enjoying the last days of holidays before going back to their regular routines.
With some people having already gone back to work, the Festive Season Committee (FESMAC) has reported that the second week of the year has been fairly quiet, with minimum incidents.
An estimate of about 373 538 people visited various beaches around the City throughout the week. Approximately 36 rescues were carried out and 306 people received first aid, mostly for blue bottle stings.
More than 1835 children were issued with armbands. Approximately 96 children were separated from their guardians and 36 were cared for at the overnight facility. All the children have been re-united with their families.
As we prepare for the coming weekend, FESMAC Chairperson, Christo Swart, assured communities that all operational plans will remain in place for the duration of the festive season. “Law Enforcement Officers will be out in full force to ensure that patrons are able to enjoy themselves in a safe and responsible way. Our lifeguards, beach buddies and child-minders will also remain at the beachfront to give assistance where required,” said Swart.
