Swift Metro response sees taxi cleared from home entrance
The swift enforcement by Metro Police has led to the end of a 'taxi rank' outside Natal Settlers Memorial Home.
THE quick response by Metro Police to a complaint of the beginnings of a taxi rank being created outside Natal Settlers Memorial Home has put a swift end to it.
The illegal parking of taxis on Hutchinson Road outside the home and across the road from Kenneth Gardens had angered residents in the vicinity.
Last Thursday, after and article appeared in the Berea Mail, a Metro Police enforcement team arrived and issued fines to some drivers of the illegally parked taxis.
Belinda Naidoo, general manager of Natal Settlers, said, “Since the article came out in the Berea Mail, Metro Police were here early on Thursday and spoke to the drivers. I believe some were issued fines, and they haven't returned.
“It is a relief, and we are grateful for the swift response from Metro Police. It is a pleasure to drive in to the home in the mornings without seeing the taxis along the fence. We strive so hard to create the right image and invite the right people to the home, so getting the taxis removed has improved the image of the home.
Naidoo hoped the taxis had gone for good and they don't have a recurrence, but was assured by Inspector G Andrews that they could call on Metro Police if there is a problem in future.
“I'm really glad they are gone, because now we can park our cars from the flat there again. I just hope they stay away for good this time,” said a relieved resident from Kenneth Gardens.
