ATM robber caught
A young woman who was robbed of cash and her bank card outside a Berea ATM was lucky to have them retrieved by fast acting police members last Friday.
According to Berea police spokesman, Lieutenant PN Naidoo, the woman was withdrawing money from the ATM at the corner of Ritson and Mansfield Roads in the early hours of Friday morning when she was suddenly approached by a man.
“The man grabbed her bank card and cash and ran, but luckily the woman managed to call the police. Berea SAPS members responded and obtained a description of the suspect. The team patrolled the area and arrested the suspect a short while later, who was identified by the complainant, and her cash and card were recovered,” said Naidoo.
The 25-year-old suspect was detained at SAP Berea on charges of robbery.
Dagga recovered
Berea police received and acted on information about a supposed drug delivery which resulted in an arrest in the early hours of Friday morning, 30 January.
“Our members received information that drugs were being delivered to an address in Cowey Road. The police members held observation nearby and two men, between 25 and 30 years old, were arrested for possession of dagga,” explained Lt Naidoo.
Naidoo said about half a kilogram of dagga was recovered, which had an estimated street value of R87 250. The two suspects were detained at SAP Berea.
