Hurley Centre celebrates archbishop’s life

The Director of the new Denis Hurley building said the weekend celebrations were in line with the centre's ethos.

THE past weekend was an important one for the new Denis Hurley Centre, which marked the 11th anniversary of the death of Archbishop Denis Hurley with special events.

Raymond Parrier, director of the new Denis Hurley Centre, said the weekend's celebrations were successful. “We had many visitors over the weekend from the cathedral and the mosque as well as Hindu visitors, which shows how diverse the centre is, and also how it belongs to a cross-section of people from the community. After the completion of the building I expressed to visitors that the work is not yet done, and we must constantly work to integrate projects and fundraise for them,” he said.

Parrier said the centre was a place where people from all walks of life can come to. “We want to create a safe place in the city. Our plan is to work with the city to create an open market connecting the Emmanuel Cathedral and the centre, which has much outdoor activity. We want this to be an attractive space, not just in the city but in the world, especially because the cathedral and the Denis Hurley Centre have international appeal,” he added.
