Late night dumpers target Cato Road

Ward councillor Nicole Graham encouraged residents to try identify culprits of dumping, to bring them to book.

ILLEGAL dumping has raised its ugly face in Cato Road, Glenwood, where local resident, Marda Coombes says it has become a regular occurrence.

Coombes said people seemed to dump at the intersection of Cato and King Dinizulu Roads, late at night.

“The dumping is a regular thing, every now and again the municipality will do a clean up and cut the grass, but the very next day someone will dump their rubbish or the vagrants mess it up. My staff tell me they have seen big rats running around there, I am not sure how that affects businesses across from the site,” she said.

Ward councillor, Nicole Graham encouraged residents to report the culprits. “Residents need to try to identify the culprits so they can be brought to book. I recently asked DSW to clean up the area after receiving complaints from residents,” she said.

Previously, Tozi Mthethwa, Head of Communications, said residents were advised to leave out their refuse on the predetermined collection day, by 7am and if residents missed their collection day they needed to take rubbish back into their property and leave it out on their next collection day. She said refuse needed to be disposed of in the correct bags or it would not be collected.
