Networking opportunity for businesses

BUSINESS owners attended the first ever Glenwood Business Network (GBN) meeting at Sica’s Guest House last Thursday.

Roxanne Larkan started the GBN when she posted an invitation on social media, asking if there were any other entrepreneurs in the area who would like to network.

Roxanne received more than 130 replies in the first two days and decided to open a Facebook group and plan the first meeting.

“I have run my own photography business for two years and I find that being an entrepreneur can be really lonely, especially because everyone seems to think you have way more time and money than you actually do! I thought having a group of us non-nine-to-fivers would provide encouragement and an opportunity to grow ourselves as well as our businesses,” she said.

Roxanne said the purpose and mission of GBN was still being solidified, but her vision for the group is to provide a chance for networking and brand awareness that would increase business opportunities and create an environment that allows for the entrepreneurs in the group to share their knowledge, frustrations and successes, essentially supporting each other and encouraging growth. Finally, the aim is to help build up the community and add value to the lives of those in the Glenwood area.

“This is an opportunity to build up our community, we can potentially influence the community in amazing ways. I want to live in an awesome community!” she said, addressing the group at its inaugural meeting.
