TWO thieves got more than they bargained for when they were apprehended in Berea recently, while trying to steal a large rubbish bin.
ADT Security Officer, Skhumbuzo Hlabisa, was on patrol in Currie Road when he noticed two suspicious men awkwardly trying to carry a large rubbish bin while walking down the road. Hlabisa immediately called for backup and ADT supervisor, Sihle Mkhize and ADT area manager, Shaun Venter, were dispatched.
Mkhize and Venter arrived within minutes and soon spotted the two suspects a block away. Both suspects were immediately apprehended and handed over for arrest to members with the Berea South African Police Service. The rubbish bin that was recovered was found full of stolen burglar guards.
Ivan Govender, district manager of ADT Security KwaZulu-Natal, praised the officers for being proactive: “It is extremely important to be aware of your surroundings at all times. If something or someone seems out of place, contact the local SAPS or your private security company immediately.”
