Hike for a cause

Hiking enthusiasts are encouraged to take on the annual Jade Sky Hike on Sunday 14 June.

ENTHUSIASTIC hikers will gather on Sunday 14 June, to take on a 16km trek to the Lesotho Drakensberg post, in the 9th Annual Jade Sky Hike

The event has grown in support and momentum since its inception nine years ago when it was put together to raise funds for nine-year-old Jade Preston who was diagnosed with leukaemia. Although young Jade succumbed to her illness shortly after being diagnosed, organisers and supporters have since held the hike annually in loving memory of Jade and all those who have lost their battle to cancer.

Hikers are encouraged to meet at the Sani Pass Border post at 7.30am and be ready to hike by 8am to the Highest Pub in Africa. Breakfast rolls and lunch will be sold en-route but all hikers are encouraged to be self-sufficient by carrying their own refreshments and weather protective gear as well as their all-important passport.

All ages and fitness levels are welcome to join in the adventure and to hike at their own pace as it is not a race but simply a beautiful day to be enjoyed in the outdoors with family and friends. The entry is donation-based at a minimum of R80 per person with all monies raised going toward The Sunflower Fund.
