Youngsters celebrate 60 years

Playpen Pre-School in Umbilo celebrated 60 years recently.

THERE were celebrations aplenty when Playpen Pre-School celebrated its 60th birthday and treated youngsters to special party in honour of the occasion.

Playpen was founded by Nan Duff – Aunty Nan – 60 years ago in Penzance Road. Isabelle Raw and her daughter Karen Malyon ran the school for 15 years when Aunty Nan retired. Karen and her family emigrated and Tammy Erasmus has been the principal for the past 14 years.

Playpen is one of the longest standing pre-schools in the area.
“Our children are taught through active learning in a stimulating, loving, caring, family environment. Playpen is my passion. I enjoy waking up every morning to go see all my beautiful children and to hear all their little joys and gripes!” said Tammy.
