Berea police were at the right spot at the right time and quickly arrested a thief who had broken into a car on Friday.

Quick arrest by Berea's men in blue

A Greyville man was lucky to have his property recovered after a thief broke into his car last Friday evening.

According to Lieutenant PN Naidoo, communications officer at Berea SAPS, the man parked his vehicle on Avondale Road, before locking it and walked away towards his brother’s house. “While walking away from the car, he noticed his back passenger door open and a man taking his property from his car. He screamed and noticed a police vehicle passing him and stopped it and reported the incident,” said Naidoo.

Berea police chased the suspect, arrested him and recovered the property. The suspect was detained at Berea SAPS on charges of theft out of motor vehicle.

WITH the Vodacom Durban July on this Saturday, Berea police encourage people to safeguard their property from vehicles to cellphones, laptops and tablets.

“We also encourage people to make use of the park and ride or taxi service to avoid the volumes of traffic and especially if people are indulging in alcohol,” advised Berea SAP's Lieutenant PN Naidoo.

Naidoo added that handbages, jackets and caps etc should not be left unattended on the tables where people are are sitting.
