Initiative helps warm hearts
The Waco Winter Charity Drive spanned six African countries providing food parcels for families in need.
LOCAL company, SGB-Cape, a subsidiary of Waco Africa, showed its community spirit last week when it handed out food parcels, blankets and hot meals at Kenneth Garden's Carrots and Peas soup kitchen.
The company visited the soup kitchen, which is situated at the housing estate in Umbilo which is home to up to 1800 people, as part of its ‘Caring for our Communities’ (CoC) initiative.
Carrots and Peas is part of the nutrition clinic that serves as part of the homeopathy clinic in Kenneth Gardens. The winter charity drive was part of Waco’s CoC initiative which runs throughout the month of June. This leg of the CoC saw Waco employees from South Africa, Zambia, Ghana, Swaziland, Mozambique and Namibia collecting clothing and food items to create food parcels for donation to identified charity centres across their home country.
Waco International CEO, Stephen Goodburn said: “The Caring for Communities programme represents a small part of our total commitment to our communities. As a responsible corporate citizen it is important to invest in the communities in which we operate, to create jobs which stimulate local economic activity and to ensure that that we play our part in helping those that are most vulnerable. We are a pan-African business and we are proud to have been able to run this month’s winter drive across six countries.”
