Strike action at DUT
The DUT management has responded to allegations of corruption and maladministration made by the SRC.
STRIKE action broke out at the Durban University of Technology this week with the SRC handing over a memorandum of grievances to the vice-chancellor, Professor Ahmed Bawa.
According senior director of the division of corporate affairs, Alan Khan, management has responded to SRC’s memorandum.
According to reports, the SRC named among its grievances the selling of qualifications to unqualified students, maladministration regarding the National Financial Aid Scheme and a lack of transformation at the university’s management level.
“The SRC did make a number of allegations and demands in their memorandum which was received on Tuesday 21 July. The DUT Vice-Chancellor Professor Ahmed Bawa has since given the SRC a detailed written response, clearly stating the University’s position,” said Khan.
He said the SRC had not yet responded to Bawa’s letter.
