Driver killed in collision
A man was killed in a collision at the intersection of Franks and Sydney Road, Umbilo.
ONE person died and five people were injured in a T-bone collision at the intersection of Sydney Road and Frank Road in Umbilo just after 4.30am on Monday 27 July.
According to Garrith Jamieson from Rescue Care, paramedics arrived on the scene to find the two badly damaged vehicles in the roadway.
“Three people were trapped in the wreckage with one of them being the driver. Paramedics worked together with the Durban Fire Department to free the severely entrapped occupants. Unfortunately the driver of the one vehicle had sustained fatal injuries and there was nothing that could be done for him and he was declared deceased on the scene,” he said. Jamieson said the remaining four patients were stabilised on the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital for further.
“At this stage it is unclear what caused the collision however SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating the incident further,” he said.
