Pamper a survivor
Nothing’s more inspiring than a survivor, so pamper one, says CANSA.
IN collaboration with the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA), as a part of their assignment, a group of public relations students from the Durban University of Technology hosted a pampering event for cancer survivors.
The event aims were to create a relaxing environment for cancer survivors, as well as awareness and raise funds. Activities such as makeovers, manicures and games were just a few of the fun items on the list during the course of the evening.
The Cancer Association of South Africa is a non-profit organisation that has been in existence for 80 years. It has established 14 care homes and other facilities across South Africa in order to help people who have cancer and others, who could be potential victims of cancer, or may know of people with cancer.
At care homes people who have cancer are taken care of, they arrive at the home on Monday and leave on Friday, and usually stay for a period of four to six weeks. During this time they are also taken for treatment and any special needs that they require are seen to. It runs on sponsors and money that is generated from fund-raising activities such as Shavathons, The Sanlam Cancer Challenge and Cuppas for CANSA.
