Margie presented with tribute award
A Glenwood dance teacher has been recognised for her contribution to ballet and the society.
GLENWOOD resident, Margie Marnewick was presented with the prestigious Cecchetti Society (KZN) Tribute Award in recognition of her enormous contribution to ballet and the society.
Margie, who holds the Licentiate qualification in classical ballet and is a life member of the affiliated Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) London, has been on the Cecchetti Society committee since 1977 holding the various portfolios of member, secretary, treasurer and chairman over the past nearly 40 years.
The Cecchetti Society was founded in South Africa in 1928 and the KZN branch was formed in 1936. It is a method of ballet devised by Maestro Enrico Cecchetti created for the theatre and based on technique, musicality and artistry. He taught many famous dancers of the day, one of whom was Anna Pavlova.
Generations of Cecchetti teachers, dancers and choreographers have created a high professional profile richly contributing to the history of British ballet and the development of classical ballet world-wide and particularly in South Africa.
Margie is editor of the national Cecchetti magazine and is also involved with the running of the KZN Dance Academy as trustee, administrator and part-time teacher.
