SUFFERERS of any type of arthritis are invited to the Arthritis Foundation of SA (KZN branch) to commemorate World Arthritis day, with a free awareness day seminar at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital in the Nurses Residence Hall on 17 October from noon to 3pm. The seminar will concentrate on rheumatoid arthritis, and lupus. Dr Kannada Moraharin (Ayurvedic) will give an overview of rheumatoid arthritis and lupus and an alternative approach to their treatment.

THE public is invited to take part in a walk from Senzokhule Clinic in Kennedy Gardens to King Edward VIII Hospital, where they will receive information about breast cancer and the opportunity to have an examination for breast cancer detection. PHRENAID, the only registered NPO specifically created to provide support to any person affected by schizophrenia, is partnering with Advanced Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners from King Dinuzulu Hospital to present a short seminar to celebrate Mental Health Month. Schizophrenia – A Family and Community Concern is on 17 October at Westville Methodist Church, 38 Jan Hofmeyr Road, Westville, from 1pm to 4pm.No charge, open to all persons interested in the area of schizophrenia management and support.

THE South African Writers' Circle will meet on Saturday, 17 October at the Westville Library (Room G4).

Zainub Dala, published author will speak about My writing journey: the road to publication. A workshop will follow where those attending will have an opportunity to apply their writing skills – this is voluntary. Zainub will conduct the workshop entitled Planning The Novel Structure: Use of mind maps to create a 3 act design.

CHILD Welfare Durban and District, Donation Station Charity Shop is open Monday to Thursday from 8am to 3pm and hosts a monthly jumble sale.

The next sale is on 22 October from 9am to 1pm. If you can help with donations of resalable items, such as curtains, linen, men's clothing and shoes, pop in and browse as you never know what bargain you may find.

All funds raised are used for the child protection services provided to the orphans and vulnerable children of Durban.
