Wrapping up the sailing year, competitive sailors representing Point Yacht Club (PYC) racked up the accolades at a variety of awards ceremonies.

Four PYC sailors were recognised at the annual SA Sailing Awards, with Rear Commodore of Youth Thomas Funke receiving the Owen Aisher Trophy for SA Sailor of the Year.

Outgoing Rear Commodore of Keelers, Anthony Howes, was presented with the Stan Jefferson Trophy for his outstanding contribution to sailing administration, while Noluthando Radebe was recognised as Up-and-Coming Race Officer of the Year. Greggory Dobson was also honoured as Race Coach of the Year.

At the club’s annual prize-giving, Luke Wagner was named PYC Keeler Yachtsman of the Year following a strong season. Wagner and his team claimed top honours in the Twilight Series Division A, the Congella Cup and the Sunshine Series Division ORC.

Up-and-coming sailor Anna Correa was named PYC’s Yachtswoman of the Year after adding another achievement to her growing list of successes by taking top position in the L26 Division at MSC Week.

Her teammate, Shamir Rampersadh, also collected silverware after winning the L26 division in the Congella Cup and Sunshine Series, while young Jessica Davy was recognised as the club’s Keeler Most Improved sailor.

Jeremy Kriek was first overall in the Congella Cup and Twilight Series, while Kevin Rainier claimed first overall in the Twilight Series despite losing his rudder during one of the opening offshore events.

Frans Van Oers won the D Division in the Congella Cup, Howes claimed the B Division in the Sunshine Series, and Peter Blofield won the PYC Race.

Following the 49th MSC Week, Ben Makhanya of Sail Africa, competing aboard Spirit of Anna Wardley, was awarded a certificate for finishing first overall for PYC in the MSC B Division.

The 2026/27 season is now underway, with 30 craft taking part in the annual opening cruise before competing in the 13th Barts Bash.
