City addresses noise complaint
The municipality has met with residents in Cleveland Place, Berea, who are having sleepless nights due to the noise from a neighbouring block.
ETHEKWINI Municipality has taken action after receiving noise complaints by residents living near a block of flats in Cleveland Place, Berea.
Residents complained that students occupied the building and as neighbours, they were subjected to noise from shouting and loud music.
eThekwini Municipality head of communications, Tozi Mthethwa, said: “City officials met with both the complainant and the manager of the property in question. The complainant was advised to report the problem when it occurs to the City control room and was assured the matter was being attended to. He was also informed that we have engaged town planning to investigate the use of the building”
She said it had also been established that the building was being privately let out and not to any institution. The manager of the property was informed about City by-laws and in turn informed his tenants about their behaviour.
“We will continue to monitor this complaint and take the necessary enforcement action if the problem persists,” she said.
