Security officers notch up more arrests

Good arrests by Blue Security officers in and around Durban this week.

BLUE Security armed response officers arrested five suspects, an armed robber and several housebreakers on the Berea and in the CBD over the past week.

Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson said an armed response officer had responded to an alarm activation and arrested a housebreaker as he fled from a business premises in Lillian Ngoyi (Windermere) Road at 3.51am on Tuesday morning.

“When our officer arrived on the premises he noticed movement inside the building. As he approached to investigate two suspects came running out of the building carrying bottles of alcohol,” he said.

Jackson said the officer managed to arrest one of the suspects and recovered several open bottles of alcohol. He was handed over to Metro Police officers who took him to Durban Central Police Station.

In another incident, an armed response officer arrested a suspect following an armed robbery at a business premises in Field Street at around 5.30pm on Friday. He was handed over to Durban Central SAPS who attended the scene.

Other arrests included a burglar who had attempted to steal a ladder from a church premises in Morningside on Thursday night and an officer recovered stolen skateboards and a camera tripod after he arrested an alleged thief in Bath Road in Glenwood on Wednesday.

“An individual approached our officer and gave him the description of a man who had allegedly just broken into a car parked on the side of the road. Our officer patrolled the area in search of the alleged thief and found him walking along the road with two skateboards and a camera tripod that he could not account for,” he said.

The alleged thief had forced open a window and opened the front passenger door to break into the car to steal the goods which the owner of the car later identified. The suspect was handed over to the Umbilo SAPS at the scene of the crime and a case of theft out of motor vehicle was opened.

Jackson added that a housebreaker was arrested in Stephen Dlamini (Essenwood) Road as he tried to flee a business premises earlier in the afternoon.

“While our officer was conducting a check of the property the suspect jumped out of a window and attempted to flee but he was too slow for our officer who arrested him and handed him over to the police,” he said.

Berea SAPS attended the scene.

Jackson commended the officers and the police for their quick reaction that led to the arrests.

“We will continue to be proactive and to work closely with residents and the police in the fight against crime to ensure criminals are brought to book,” he said.
