Toy store spreads festive cheer

Toys R Us aims to spread Christmas cheer to thousands of underprivileged children.

THOUSANDS of disadvantaged South African children will experience the joy of opening a gift this Christmas due to the festive toy donation campaign launched by leading toy retailer, Toys R Us.

Through the Gift of Play campaign, customers are able to buy and donate toys for underprivileged children at Toys R Us and Babies R Us stores nationwide.

Each store has selected a deserving organisation within their region to support.

“We are thrilled to be able to create magical moments, especially for children in need, by bringing happiness into their lives. This initiative aims to put smiles on the faces of children who would otherwise not receive a Christmas gift,” said Michelle Burke- Marketing Manager, Toys R Us, South Africa.

As part of the Gift of Play drive, Christmas trees positioned in each store contain tags, representing underprivileged children from the selected organisation.

Customers are encouraged to choose a tag, which specifies information such as the age and gender of the child receiving the gift. The appropriate gift along with the tag can be thereafter handed in to the cashier. All toys donated will be wrapped in store and delivered to the chosen charity.

“Our goal is to ensure that every child receives a gift on Christmas morning and this year we aim to collect 5000 toys,” said Burke.
