THE Sector 3 New Beach Car Attendants Project was launched at Parkview Hotel last Thursday.
The 40 car attendants were given new bibs, donated by Parkview Hotel, and were urged by Lt Petros Zikhali from Point SAPS to give of their best in this venture.
“This project was initiated to ensure the people visiting and living in this area will feel safe and secure this festive season. The attendants are obligated to ensure they to the job diligently and to the best of their ability,” he said.
The attendants were chosen from 87 applicants, and will work hand-in-hand with Metro, SAPS and law enforcement, who will support and supervise the attendants.
“We haven't got this 100 per cent right, but this is a tool to work with and move forward, to make it work in the area. The 40 chosen attendants will bring change and make Sector 3 a no criminal zone,” he said.
Vuyani Msomi, chairperson of the Point CPF, thanked the police for their hard work in ensuring the sector becomes a better place.
“We thank Hennie Kruger from Parkview Hotel for the donations of the new bibs as the attendants now have the same 'uniform'. We want the attendants and stakeholders to work together to create a crime free society in the Point. It is a tourist destination, with the beach and other recreational facilities, and the community must ensure the visitors feel safe and come back, by contributing through this initiative. We must be seen as a united force and fight crime together,” he said.
Msomi urged the attendants to do a good job in representing the CPF, and to report incidents to the police and other law enforcement and security companies.
Mike Cook, chairman of the board at Parkview Hotel said he and Hennie Kruger were proud to be part of the project and said they were depending on the attendants during this period.
“Crime is escalating almost on a daily basis, especially as the festive season approaches,” he said.
Lt Col Ravin Singh said the attendants were an extension of the law in the area.
“The task is daunting, but we are relying on them to give it their best shot,” he said.
