Help make Matt’s dreams come true

An appeal goes out to the community to help raise funds to enable Matt Glasspool to attend the individual public speaking and debating world's championship in Pittsburg United States.

BUDDING public speaker, Matt Glasspool, (16), has been offered the opportunity of a lifetime to attend the individual public speaking and debating world’s championship in Pittsburg, United States, in March.

Matt needs to raise a whopping R60 000 to reach his destination, and as his family has limited resources, family friend, Linda Lafitte has committed to help raise awareness to assist with fundraising to help get Matt to America to attend this prestigious event as an ambassador for South Africa.

Matt, who attends Glenwood High School, holds honours for public speaking and colours for debating and academics.

Speaking about the opportunity, Matt said: “I feel very honoured to be part of such a great bunch of highly talented people. I’ve worked really hard and I’m so grateful for this opportunity I have been presented. All I want from this trip is to do as well as I can, learn from others and to meet new people and to do my country proud.”

Linda said Matt was selected to go to the world’s champs in Los Angeles last July, and even though his mom pulled out all the stops and arranged passport, visa and an unabridged birth certificate, the sponsor of flights reneged at the eleventh hour and Matt was unable to attend.

“This is why I am getting involved and asking for assistance, so that we can help this young man realise his dreams,” said Linda.

Matt has recently been sworn in as Mayor for the Durban Youth Council, and as such is able to attend congress, to be the voice of the youth.

“He is a very passionate young man who believes in making a difference in this beautiful land of ours. I believe him to be a future leader, and look forward to watching his progress,” she said.

Linda urged anyone who wanted to help make Matt’s dream a reality to deposit any donations into the fundraising account: Standard Bank, branch: Northcliff, branch number: 051001, account number: 10077540555, beneficiary: M Glasspool.

Include your personal name/name of company so the Glasspool family can personally thank each sponsor.
