A LOCAL school got a much-needed revamp days before the school year started.
Member of Parliament and co-chairperson of the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Ethics and Members’ Interests, Omie Singh, was at the forefront of the revamping of the dilapidated Cato Crest Combined School on Monday 11 January.
The campaign to renovate the school was spearheaded by a cluster of seven police stations in Durban, including Point, Durban Central, Berea, Cato Manor, Mayville, Umbilo and Sydenham.
Mr Singh was part of the campaign in his capacity as Member of Parliament serving his constituency area of eThekwini and enlisted the services of contractors who rendered services such as painting and putting up a wall and fence for free. The school’s toilets, which were also in bad state, will be fixed.
“What the police are doing is commendable because they understand the importance of education. With education, young people are able to build their future and in doing so they stay away from the temptations of resorting to criminal activities,” said Mr Singh.
