Supporters go the extra mile
Game will go the extra mile for Community Chest at this year's Midmar Mile 2016.
IN a bid to raise funds for charity, 110 Game and Community Chest swimmers will swim the Aquelle Midmar Mile challenge for the 14th year running, at the weekend.
Since 2003 Game has donated R1000 for every swimmer who completes the race. This year’s fundraising initiative by Game will raise R110 000 for the Community Chest.
The Executive Director of the Community Chest, Mr Gordon Mc Donald said: “The Game/Community Chest Midmar Mile partnership is a fantastic fundraising initiative, whereby the Game staff and family members, young and old alike are, through their own physical effort, able to raise funds for our vulnerable community.”
He said to be able to swim a mile, many hours of dedicated training are required before the time and this is a truly noble endeavour, as people can’t but help becoming healthier, himself included.
“he event has evolved over the years, now in its 14th year there are some of the younger swimmers who first came to the dam in nappies and now they are swimming. It is a wonderful day full of family and fun and of course it’s all for a good cause,” he said.
