AN alleged housebreaker, who was caught on CCTV camera, was among several suspects Blue Security and the SAPS arrested on the Berea over the past week.
Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson said a control centre operator had initially seen the alleged housebreaker tampering with a black jeep parked in the road via a Blue Eye-in-the-Sky CCTV street surveillance camera in 11th Avenue in Morningside on Sunday.
“He then moved off to stand outside a property in the same road where he started tampering with a pedestrian gate in an attempt to break in. With the information from our control centre operator our reaction officer swooped on the suspect, arrested him and handed him over to the Berea SAPS,” Jackson said.
Jackson said an armed response officer and Umbilo police had arrested a second alleged housebreaker at a business premises just after midnight on Sunday.
“A housebreaker had broken into the property via the fire escape but he was arrested when he was found with 25 tyres in his possession during a search of the premises with the police,” he said.
Jackson said a third suspect was arrested after a proactive armed response officer noticed a suspicious man carrying goods on the corner of Esther Roberts and Willowvale Road last Monday.
“Our officer was on his way to respond to an alarm at a nearby property but when he had finished there he drove back to search for the suspect,” Jackson said.
Jackson said he found him on the corner of Alan Paton and Umbilo Road carrying rubbish bins and he questioned him about where he had got the bins.
“He asked the suspects to place the bins in the back of his van and once he had loaded the last one in he turned and fled up Alan Paton Road. Our officer pursued him, arrested him and handed him over to the Umbilo SAPS. He then took the police to the property from where he had stolen the bins,” he said.
An alleged aluminium thief was arrested in Rosetta Road, Morningside on Monday.
Jackson said an armed response officer had responded to an alarm activation at a business premises at around 8.50am when he saw a suspect on the property.
“He called for back up and the suspect then jumped over the fence and fled the scene. Our officer chased him and caught him in Seventh Avenue hiding behind a wall,” he said.
The man was arrested and handed over to the Berea police who attended the scene and took the suspect back to the premises for questioning. Jackson said a representative from the business arrived and advised that the stack of aluminium belonged to the company.
