Pupils donate pre-loved books

Tree Tops pupils donated books to the Learn Project last week, on World Book Day.

PUPILS at Tree Tops celebrated World Book Day last week, by supporting the Learn Project.

The children dressed up as their favourite story-book characters and each child donated a pre-loved book from home to the project, which creates libraries in disadvantaged schools.

The Grade 2 pupils also read stories to the Grade 00s on the day, and the Grade 3 pupils brought joy to the elderly at Beth Shalom old age home in the afternoon, when they went to read to them.

Ros Toerien from the Learn Project was very grateful for the number of books donated on the day. She said the boys from the boarding establishment at DHS would be collecting the books and were earning community service points by having a cleaning and stamping weekend, working for the Learn Project.

“The books will thereafter be taken to our office where they are processed into the Dewey system, their spines will be labeled and we will then hold a book covering party where they will be covered in plastic, ready to be delivered,” she said.
