School receives gift of plants

Greyville Primary School received a bag of plants for its grounds from a Morningside resident.

MORNINGSIDE resident, Chandra Naidu and Vukani Hlekwane, handyman at Belor block of flats, decided to do some thinning out of the plants in the flat’s garden recently. Instead of sending the garden waste to landfill, they opted to share it.

They shared a bagful of mother-in-laws tongues with the Little Paddington Daycare Centre located next door to the flats and another of spider lilies with the Greyville Primary School in Greyville.

They met with the head of department at the school, Mr Kuben Pillay, who readily accepted their offering.

“The intention of sharing this story is to inspire others to share their unwanted plants and trees with those who can benefit from them. We can all do with more oxygen,” said Chandra.

She said she would coordinate plant and tree givers with needy recipients. Contact Chandra on 082 838 2945.
