LGE 2026: Still not sure where to vote?

It's an hour to go before Local Government Elections 2026. Here's a list of your voting stations in Berea and surrounding areas.

AFTER two days of special voting, millions of South Africans head to the polls today (November 4) to elect local government representatives in the Local Government Elections.

With an hour to go before voting stations open we have compiled an essential list of voting stations, the dos and don’ts on voting day, and how to double-check your registration details. Berea Mail will be covering Wards 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32 and 33 throughout the day.

• Times: Voting stations will open from 07:00 until 21:00 on the day
• Registration status: If you’ve checked or want to double-check where you are registered you can either visit IEC website at www.elections.org.za and enter your ID number or SMS your ID number to 32810. You can also send a message to the IEC WhatsApp number 060 088 0000 by saying ‘Hi’.
What you need to present at voting station
• All you need is an ID book (green barcoded book) or a Smart ID card or a valid temporary identity certificate.
• What won’t be accepted is your driver’s licence, passport or photocopies of ID document.
• After you present your details to the IEC officials and they are verified, your left thumbnail will be inked and you will receive your ballot papers.
Ballots papers
• Most residents in eThekwini will receive two ballot papers
• One of the ballots would be to choose a ward councillor.
• The other ballot is to choose a political party for representation in the metropolitan council.
• Residents simply need to make one clear X (cross) inside the box next to your chosen candidate or political party on each ballot paper.
• Ensure your ballot sheets are stamped
