Cheryl wins Sinfonia cruise

The Umbilo Gophers social golfing club handed over a prize of a cruise on the SInfonia to lucky draw winners.

THE Umbilo Gophers social golfing group held a get-together at La Bella this morning where a prize of a cruise for two was handed over to the lucky winners.

The Umbilo Gophers was started twenty years ago by a group of high school friends and footballers who, as they had gotten older, decided they needed to try out another sport. The Umbilo Gophers is now a group of around 40 members, both men and women, from all walks of life.

The Umbilo Gophers get together once a month to play social golf around the province, and go away once a year for a golfing weekend. This year the group stayed at the Port Edward Holiday Resort and enjoyed games of golf at South Coast golf courses.

This year Greg Ross decided to do a fundraising initiative and each member was given a booklet of tickets to sell from January. Tickets were R100 each, and the first prize was a cruise for two on the Sinfonia.

“To make the process legit, we played at Toti in September, and the Toti club captain, Nico Fogil, drew the winning booklet and ticket. Cheryl and Alan Connacher from Musgrave were the lucky winners,” he said.

At the handover at La Bella, Cheryl said she was very excited to be the winner, and that she and Alan looked forward to their cruise.

The Umbilo Gophers is looking for more golfers to join the group, and interested people are encouraged to contact Greg on greg.jackie.ross@gmail.com
